The forward says his side are aiming for a semi-final spot when they meet Soro Lohognon’s side in their second African Beach Soccer Cup of Nations clash at the Eko Atlantic
Nigeria’s beach soccer forward Abu Azeez has revealed that sealing a semi-final spot remains their topmost ambition against Cote d’Ivoire on Wednesday in Lagos.
After Tuesday’s hard-fought win against Egypt, Azeez admitted it was a great feeling for his side getting their African Beach Soccer Cup of Nations campaign on a winning note.
“I feel so happy coming into a tournament and winning our first is a great moral booster for the team,” Azeez told Goal.
“I’m very happy that despite our defeat to Switzerland in Copa Lagos, we bounced back and win our opening match against Egypt.
“They came out very strong this time. The last time we met them in Seychelles, we defeated 5-2, so, I think they were really equipped against us.
“They [Egypt] came here with the aim to beat us but we still able to win again.
“Becuase victory over Cote d’Ivoire tomorrow [Wednesday] will put us in the semi-final and that’s what we look forward to as a team.”
