Nigerian Dennis battles Suarez, 2 others for UEFA award

Nigerian international, Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis, has been nominated alongside Barcelona’s Luiz Suarez, Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry, and Borussia Dortmund’s Achraf Hakimi for the UEFA Champions League (UCL) player of the week.

Dennis, a product of Kwara Football Academy was sensational for his Belgian side, Club Brugge as he netted a brace on Tuesday night in the 2-2 draw in the Champions League clash with 13-time European Champions, Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 21-year-old attacker, who made his debut for Nigeria last month in the friendly against Ukraine, is up against Suarez whose second-half brace helped Barcelona finish a comeback against Inter.

Borussia Dortmund’s Achraf Hakimi and Bayern Munich’s in-form Forward, Serge Gnabry complete the list of the nominees.

Gnabry scored four in the second half of Bayern’s 7-2 smash over while Hakimi netted a double to help Dortmund beat Slavia Praha 2-0 in a hard-fought victory.

It will be recalled that Dennis at the Bernabeu scored in the ninth minute and doubled the lead in the 39th minute, before the Zinedine Zidane men rallied to a 2-2 draw in the second half through goals from captain Sergio Ramos and Casemiro.
