Omagbemi pleased with Super Falcons’ performance despite Ghana’s stalemate

The tactician has praised her ladies for their gallant display against the Black Queens on Wednesday stating that the draw is not a bad result

Super Falcons coach Florence Omagbemi has commended her team for an impressive game after Nigeria’s 1-1 against Ghana in the on-going Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The reigning African champions were held to a draw at the Stade Municipal de Limbe after Elizabeth Addo’s 44th minute cancelled Asisat Oshoala’s lead.

Omagbemi who rued the dimissed penalty call by the referee after Oshoala was brought down in the penalty area, played down the fact that her ladies were over confident coming into the game after their 6-0 drubbing of Mali.

The gaffer still believes that the Falcons can finish as group leaders with a convincing win against Kenya in their last group game on Saturday.

“The game was great and both teams played well. Ghana gave us a good match and it was an impressive game,” said Omagbemi.

“The foul on Asisat Oshoala was a clear penalty in my own assessment. I was disappointed in the referee not making the call. We were not over confident after the 6-0 victory over Mali.

“Today, we played against a good team and it was a good match by both teams. A draw (1-1) is not a bad result. We played well and were not expecting to draw. I’m looking forward to the game

with Kenya and get a good result. We just want to play convincingly against Kenya and hopefully top the group.”
