Osun SWAN set to install Ogunjobi as Pillar of Sports

Former Secretary-General of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, is to be installed as the ‘Pillar of Sports’ in Osun State by the Osun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

The event is scheduled to hold on Sunday at the Atlantis Civic Event Centre, Osogbo as part of activities to mark this year’s‘Osun SWAN Sports Merit Awards’.

According to a statement, ‘Osun SWAN Sports Merit Awards’ is aimed at celebrating those who have rendered outstanding services to the development of sports in the country and beyond.

Chairman of Osun SWAN, Adeyemi Aboderin, Ogunjobi was considered for the award as a result of his track records both as a player and administrator whose era as the Secretary General to the NFF witnessed appreciable success.

Aboderin stated that the track records and contributions of Ogunjobi, who is also the chairman of Osun Football Association, to sports development in Nigeria speaks volume.

He noted that the former international contributed immensely to the empowerment of youths in the state and South-West in general through sports.

The event would also be used to confer ‘Prestigious Award’ on some individuals who have contributed to the development of football and other sports in Nigeria.

Some of the recipients includes President of the Nigeria Golf Federation and former Osun State governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; former NFF president, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi; NFF vice president Barrister Seyi Akinwumi; NFF executive committee member, Aisha Falode; Gold Cup pre- season tournament sponsor, Senator Buhari Abdul-Fatai; ex-international Ademola Adesina and the president of Remo Stars, Honourable Kunle Soname, among others.
