Pep Guardiola reveals secret to Man City success

Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City were so successful this season because his players are such good human beings.

City won the Premier League and Carabao Cup in a record-breaking campaign, playing some of the best football the English top flight has seen in the process.

They became the first team to rack up 100 points in a single season and also set records for the most goals and most wins recorded in a 38-game campaign.

However, despite having some of the league’s best players in Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Sergio Aguero in his ranks, Guardiola says the main reason behind City’s success lies in the character of his players rather than their on-field talent.

“Last season and this season, one of our strong points is our locker room,” Guardiola said.

“The quality of the human beings they are, how they connect with the rest of the staff, that is I would say the main secret, that counts a lot to me.”

Guardiola also refuted the suggestion that his City side is the best the Premier League has ever seen, insisting his players will need to deliver consistent success to earn that tag.

“We are the best? I’m not sure of that,” Guardiola added.

“I’m completely with the people who say that to be considered the best team in the history of English football you have to win more. We won one Premier League (title).”
