Plateau Utd, Sunshine, Rangers for Lagos Pre-season tourney

Nigeria Professional Football League champions Plateau United, Enugu Rangers and Sunshine Stars are set to storm Lagos for the annual Tata Cup.

The clubs will feature at the pre-season tournament billed to be staged from November 20-24 at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.

Plateau United head coach, Kennedy Boboye, said the tournament is one of his preparatory engagements ahead of next season’s CAF Champions League, NPFL and the Aiteo Cup.

Rangers who have just employed seasoned coach Gbenga Ogunbote are also expected at the event.

Other clubs who have indicated their participation are Sunshine Stars and El Kanemi Warriors as well as Nigeria National League club Nnewi United,  36 Lion FC, Yobo FC  and Bethel FC.

The eight teams will be drawn into two groups in a round robin format and the first two teams in each group proceed to the semi-finals.

Tournament director John Tata said the winners will get 250,000 Naira, runners-up 150,000 Naira, while there will be awards for the highest goal scorer and the Most Valuable Player.

Defunct Sharks FC and Dolphins FC, Shooting Stars, Isoko United and Delta Force were previous winners of the competition.
