The race for promotion to the elite league from the Nigerian National League (NNL), begins this weekend with the opening fixture between FC Basira of Lafia and Mighty Jets of Jos.
The encounter, billed to kick off at 3 pm at the Lafia City stadium, officially marks the commencement of the second-tier league, regarded as the most important league.
While FC Basira and Mighty Jets will kick start the season this weekend, other teams will be called to action as of next weekend as the season gets underway fully.
A total of 382 matches are billed to be played throughout the season, with four group winners getting automatic promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
This is due to the abolishment of the eight-team playoff format, previously organised to determine the winners of the four promotion tickets.
The George Aluo-led NNL management, according to the league’s spokesman, Amar Ignis, has concluded every arrangement for a smooth season, with encouraging packages to improve the standard of the league.
“As the organisers, I can tell you that we are fully ready for the 2025/26 season. It is kicking off officially on Saturday, November 8 and from there, there is no stopping the excitement associated with the NNL,” Ignis told Sporting Tribune in a telephone conversation.
