Ramos: Real Madrid will have to be indestructible

The most important part of the season is upon us, where titles are decided upon the smallest details, and Sergio Ramos believes Real Madrid will be ready for the fight.

An impressive comeback victory at the Allianz Arena bodes well for Los Blancos’ double dreams, but even considering Real’s good form as of late, there is still much to be done.

“Real Madrid will have to be indestructable in the final stretch of the season,” Ramos told Jorge Valdano on BeIN Sport’s ‘Universo Valdano’ programme. “The Estadio Santiago Bernabeu gives us confidence.”

“Everybody has their spot, and Zidane’s rotation policy means everyone is involved so that we are in really good form.”

“We are all just as important, no matter who plays a lot and who doesn’t, and we are like brothers.”

Looking back at his career, a young Ramos could have been a bull-fighter, and his connection to the city of Sevilla runs deep, despite recent episodes at the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan.

“My mother told me to enjoy kicking the ball around and not make her suffer any more long afternoons [as a bull-fighter],” Ramos said of his switch. “I’m a Sevillista, my family is Sevillista, and however much they whistle or criticise me, that’ll be the case no matter what.”

Asked of his playing style, he admits that there is a striker’s instinct that has always possessed him whenever in the box.

“I’ve always had a No.9’s instinct that I’ve been able to maintain to help my team in certain moments.

“In the moments when there is most pressure, when there is more of a sporting risk, when everything is on the line, when there is a title in play… that is when I feel most comfortable.”
