AMID speculations that newly-promoted Remo Stars’ slot in the Nigeria Professional Football League could be up for sale, club chairman, Mr Kunle Soname has denied the rumour.
Remo Stars, it will be recalled, gained promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL), in the just-ended season after it beat the six other teams to the sole ticket.
According to a statement by the Media Manager of Remo Stars, Michael Onikute, which was made available to Tribunesport, there is no plan to sell the team’s premier league ticket by the team’s owner, Soname.
“I have been inundated with calls about the news doing the rounds that Remo Stars’ slot in the Nigeria premier league would be sold.
“This is not only untrue, but against our aspirations. It is also against laid down principles which we stand for. This is an unnecessary distraction to our plans for the upcoming season, but we remain resolute in our preparations for the next football season,” Soname said.
He further affirmed that “Ikorodu United or any other club for that matter have not contacted me about the sale of Remo Stars, so I wonder where this unfortunate rumours emanated from.”
Soname stated that “this defies any logic to speculate that a club that threw everything into the fray would suddenly want to sell its hard-earned promotion ticket. We won’t be distracted by this type of unfounded speculation.”
