Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has said that the team’s major group opponents in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Argentina are beatable.
Speaking on Monday at the press conference ahead of today’s international friendly against Serbia, the Franco-German said anything could happen in football. Though he didn’t write off Argentina, Rohr said the Eagles could turn the table.
“We sent scout to watch their game against Italy in Manchester and we also saw the video this morning and we all discussed it and with the feelings in camp among the players, it will not be an individual effort to tame Messi, but our collective efforts, so it’s possible and don’t be surprised he might not play against us (laughter) if Argentina won her first two matches,” Rohr said.
“When we played them in the friendly, Messi did not play so also our own [Victor] Moses but this time we pray against injury so that we can have good game, but let us wait till then,” the coach added.
Also speaking, stand-in captain, Ogenyi Onazi, who assured that the team will defeat Serbia in today’s friendly, disclosed at the press conference that the players are committed to national assignment and are ready to give their all at the mundial.
“We are fully prepared, not only for the game against Serbia today, but also for the great task ahead at the World Cup and I can assure that the players are in right frame of mind,” Onazi said.
