Russia 2018: I’m preparing Eagles for 2022 World Cup ―Rohr

Nigeria manager, Gernot Rohr has said the current Super Eagles would be a solid team by the 2022 World Cup, as he hailed the team for the 2-0 win over Iceland on Friday evening at the ongoing Russia 2018.

The German-Franco born tactician in an apparent message to Nigerians not to expect a magic from his current team in Russia, however said beating Argentina in the last group game on Tuesday is not an impossible task.

“What I like in my young team is humility, solidarity and fighting spirit. I thought before this World we were here to learn. I think this team will be ready in 2022 and this World Cup is coming early, but we have a good chance to win against Argentina,” Rohr told FIFA.com while basking in the euphoria of the Eagles’ victory over Iceland in a group D match at the Volgograd Stadium.

Meanwhile, Coach of Iceland, Heimir Hallgrimsson, believes it is not yet over for his men at Russia 2018, saying facing Croatia in the last group game poses no threat to them.

“We’ve played Croatia four times in four years and we’ve often said we’re like a married couple trying to get divorced but we always meet up again. They’ve had two really, really good performances in the World Cup.

“The last one was a shining example of how good Croatia is but that also gives us confidence because we were ahead of them in our [qualifying] group and have already beaten them once in Iceland.

“It’s a strange fact that we are still in the race. We didn’t think we would go through this World Cup without a loss and losses are always difficult to swallow. But we only need to beat Croatia, which is possibly easier to say than do,” Hallgrimsson told FIFA.com.
