Sanchez expects Wolves action after Champions League snub

Manchester United star, Alexis Sanchez reportedly expects Jose Mourinho to pick him for the weekend’s clash with Wolves, despite missing their Champions League victory over Young Boys on Wednesday.

Manchester United star Sanchez was benched for last night’s Champions League match against Young Boys, just days after a drab display against Watford.

The Chile international has shown signs of life recently – impressing in pre-season and catching the eye against Burnley at Turf Moor – but remains a shadow of his former self.

Manchester United signed Sanchez from Arsenal in January and, such was their belief he would close the gap on title rivals Manchester City, he was immediately given the No 7 shirt.

Nearly 10 months on, though, and he has just three goals to his name. Those have come against Huddersfield, Swansea and Tottenham.

Anthony Martial, Sanchez’s direct replacement on the left wing, scored for the first time since his team-mates arrival.

And Marcus Rashford also impressed.

The Manchester Evening News say, however, that Sanchez expects to return to the fold against Wolves on Saturday.

Early defeats to Brighton and Tottenham aside, United have endured a solid, if unspectacular, start to the season.

Wolves, though, are flying in their first season back in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, former Chile U2-0 coach Jose Sulantay thinks Sanchez’s Old Trafford woes are down to Mourinho.

And he also thinks the 29-year-old will continue to struggle until the United manager releases the shackles.

“Of course, the Champions League is an extra motivational factor for any footballer,” he said.
“But Alexis’ present, I don’t know if it will be fixed just because a great league comes along. I notice him being unbalanced and quite negative.

“It will be hard for him to return to his great level if he continues like this.

“And well, there’s little help from Jose Mourinho’s defensive game, which is based on long balls, skipping the sector where he plays.

“That should worry him. Hopefully the picture improves.”
