Jannik Sinner extended his dominance on the ATP Tour with a straight-sets win over Alexander Zverev to claim the Madrid Open title and set a new Masters record.
The world number one needed just 58 minutes to secure a 6-1, 6-2 victory, sealing his fifth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 title. The result continues a run that began late last year and has stretched across the opening months of the current season.
Sinner’s latest success follows earlier triumphs at Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo, adding to his previous Masters win in Paris.
With the Madrid title, he moves past Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in terms of consecutive Masters titles won.
Sinner said, “I think there is a lot of work behind it. A lot of dedication and sacrifice I put in every day. Obviously, it means a lot to me, seeing these results.

“At some point, results are going to be down, which is normal. I’m very happy that I’ve continued to believe in myself. I’m showing up every day, at every practice session, trying to put in the right work with the right discipline.”
The Italian took control of the final early, racing to a 5-0 lead in the opening set.
He converted his chances efficiently and did not face a break point throughout the match. Zverev struggled to find rhythm and was forced onto the back foot for most of the contest.
Sinner broke again early in the second set and maintained his level, closing out the match with another break before serving for the title.
The win also extended his unbeaten run against Zverev, marking his ninth straight victory over the German.
Attention now shifts to the Italian Open in Rome, where Sinner has the chance to match Djokovic’s achievement of winning all nine Masters events.
A strong showing there would further strengthen his position heading into the French Open.
He remains one of the leading contenders for the title in Paris, where he fell short last year against Carlos Alcaraz.
