Sunshine Stars Players groan over unpaid salaries

Nigeria Professional Football League side, Sunshine Stars are now spoiling for a pay strike as they are owed salaries running into four months.

According to Africanfootball.com, August was the last time the players were paid.

One of the players lamented: “We have not been paid for September, October, November and December.

“You can imagine we travelled home without salary and most of us are Christians.

“Honestly speaking, I am tired of the way our football is run.

“I have a wife and other family members to take care of, how do I go in meeting essential needs of life if I am not paid my salary?”

He added: “We have resolved that we are not going to resume if we are not paid before the resumption date.”

The Owena Waves finished last season among the top six on the table.

Already, Stanley Dimgba, Dele Olorundare, Stephen Eze and Omolayo Olulayo, among others would not play for the team in the new season scheduled to begin on January 15.

Meanwhile, striker Rasak Adegbite has rejoined Sunshine Stars after he failed to impress at Kano Pillars last season.

“I have rejoined Sunshine Stars for the new season,” the former Enugu Rangers and Enyimba player who had a short with a Turkish side said.

“I am here to prove some people wrong. I know I am a good player and I have proved that over the years.

“If not for ill luck, I should be playing in Europe, but I am patiently waiting for the right time.”
