Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has denied the appointment of former Indomitable Lions of Cameroon German coach, Winifred Schafer, as Super Eagles new coach.
Reports were rife in the media (not Sporting Tribune) that the leadership of the NFF has engaged the former Borussa Monchengladbach, Thailand and Jamaica coach to take over the coaching duty of the three-time African champions.
When asked by Sporting Tribune to confirm if truly the football house has engaged the 74-year-old gaffer, Gusau in a WhatsApp message simply reacted, “I’m not aware.”
Sporting Tribune recall that the Super Eagles have not had a substantive coach since former coach, Finidi George, resigned in June following the announcement to appoint a foreign technical adviser by the football house.
Also, German tactician, Bruno Labbadia who initially agreed to coach the Super Eagles rejected the deal owing to stringent tax law of the German authority.
NFF’s Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen, later stepped in and led the Eagles in 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches in Uyo against the Cheetah of Benin Republic on 7th September and against Rwanda in Kigali on 10th September with the two games ending in 3-0 and 0-0 respectively.
