Members of the Tiger Golf Club (TGC), Monday Stephen and Mary Onyejose, have emerged champions of the 10th edition of the Bovas Golf Tournament.
The tournament, which hosted over 149 golfers at TGC, 2Div, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo, Ibadan on Saturday, saw Stephen claim the overall winner with 70 Net in the male category, while Onyejose won the ladies category with 79 net.
Stephen ascribed his victory to hard work and consistency on the course, just as he has focused his attention on the next tournament, tagged ‘Tiger Open’ scheduled for next month at the club premises.
He said, “I’m so excited about winning this tournament, though this is not the first time; God crowns my effort for winning it this year again. My next target is to win the Tiger Open.”
Speaking, Captain of the club, Alhaji Gbenga Zubair, lauded Bovas for its support in the last 10 years, saying the company had been playing a good role in its corporate social responsibility to the society and supporting golf in Nigeria.
He said: “It’s been a successful hosting of the 10th edition of Bovas Golf tournament. Without being immodest, the status of the Bovas Golf tournament in the golfing calendar is highly appreciated.
”I want to plead with our sponsor to give serious consideration to extending both the scope and structure of this tournament to two days with pro invitational events to meet the yearnings of golfers nationwide, especially since Bovas is a household name and leading player in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.
“I must specially thank Bovas for sustaining the sponsorship of this yearly tournament over the years despite economic challenges in the country.
“My appreciation also goes to the members of the executive committee for their cooperation. The influence of our dedicated members of this club, who have consistently remained supportive, as you would have noticed that our peculiar hospitality to our guests both on and off the course is our trademark that has been part of us from inception.”
LOC Chairman, Barrister Sharafadeen Sanni, commended the sponsor for its unbroken support to the growth of the game and the business of golf through a direct relationship with the Tiger Golf Club
“On behalf of the committee, we specially appreciate the Architect. Bamidele Samson, Chairman of Bovas Group; the entire management team and all other members of staff for their efforts in seeing to the continuous sponsorship of the tournament annually.”
In his remarks, the Head, Station Sales/LPG, Bovas & Company Limited, Olabanji Adedayo, pledged the company’s commitment to supporting the game of golf and promised a better tournament next year.
