Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan recorded their third win of the season on Wednesday as they defeated Akwa Starlets 2-0 in the match day 5 of the Nigeria National League.
The match was graced by the Oyo State deputy governor, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
Olufemi Opeoluwa opened scoring for the Oluyole Warriors in the 56th minute when he jabbed the ball into the net off a rebound from Ayobami Junior’s effort. Olufemi had wasted the spot kick awarded to 3SC in the first half.
Abbey Benson doubled the lead with a header off a corner kick in the 78th minute.
Speaking after the match, 3SC handler, Edith Agoye said he was satisfied with the performance of his players despite wasting a number of chances in the match.
“I’m so happy with this result because it will boost our chances of gaining promotion. Although we lost some chances in the first half, thank God we have recorded maximum points at the end of it all,” he said.
Meanwhile, Akwa Starlets coach, Godfrey Esu, blamed their loss on bad officiating.
The former Shooting Stars coach said both teams proved their mettle but maintained that the officiating was not good enough.
“I’m happy with the performance of both teams, but the centre referee, to me, didn’t do well,” the former Enyimba coach said.
The Oluyole Warriors now boast 10 points from five games.
