AMINA Wilfred of IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, emerged winner at the 22nd Benin Ladies Open Golf championship held at the Benin Club Golf Course (BCGS), Edo State.
The three-day golf championship attracted over one hundred golfers from vibrant golf clubs across the country featuring in both men and ladies categories.
Wilfred, a woman police inspector’s victory was achieved on the final day of the championship after a slow start of 92 gross on day one before she later played 78 gross on the final day totaling 170 gross to beat E. Oyome who played 172 gross to second place while B. Obaye settled for the third place with 175 gross. The fourth and fifth position went to A. Obadina and Deborah Otabor with 181 and 185 gross respectively.
In the ladies handicap 0-28, A. Gift won the event with 145 gross, S. Emina and J. Solomon were adjudged first and second runners-up with 146 and 149 gross respectively, while R. Izoje and C. Oghifo played 150 and 156 gross respectively to place fourth and fifth position.
Other winners are men handicap 0-18 event, O. M. Imanatue who played 77 net to beat E. O. Oni-Okpaku (79 net) to second while Tony Aghedo’s 79 earned him third position just as the best gross winner went to Richard Ohonbamu with 90 gross.
Speaking to Tribunesports, Amina, runner-up at last year’s edition, attributed her victory to determination and hard-work.
Lady captain Nora Ibeson-Ucheagwu thanked all the golfers who participated for the success of the championship.
