Xhaka was dismissed during the victory at the Emirates for a cynical challenge on Modou Barrow but Wenger wasn’t convinced
Arsene Wenger has claimed Granit Xhaka’s sending off against Swansea was harsh.
The Swiss midfielder was dismissed during the second-half of the 3-2 win at the Emirates for a cynical challenge on Modou Barrow.
He was shown a straight red by referee Jonathan Moss – much to the frustration of the Arsenal support.
The Gunners managed to hang on to all three points and afterwards Wenger suggested the dismissal was unlucky.
“It looked harsh to me. A dark yellow. But the referee went for a bright red,” he said.
Theo Walcott continued his impressive form with a brace in the win, although Arsenal were hanging on towards the end of the game.
The England man scored twice in the first-half before Gylfi Sigurdsson brought Swansea back into it.
Mesut Ozil appeared to make sure of the win again only for Borja Baston to ensure a nervy finale.
Wenger added: “I have some mixed feelings because it looked at some points comfortable and then it never was.
We finished with good solidarity and we made it over the line.
“We have the same number of points as Manchester City so if you look at their game today, it’s interesting but you have to be intelligent enough to see it over a longer distance”.
