Both managers sent off as Tottenham edge Brighton 2-1 in feisty encounter

In a dramatic encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Harry Kane scored a late winner to secure Tottenham’s first victory under interim manager Cristian Stellini, defeating Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1 on Saturday.

The match was characterized by some heated moments, with both managers being sent off after a touchline altercation. However, the drama did not detract from the quality on display, particularly from Tottenham’s Son Heung-min who scored a sublime goal, his 100th in the Premier League.

Tottenham took the lead in the 13th minute, as Son cut inside and curled a sensational effort past Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele. However, the visitors refused to lie down and were soon on level terms when defender Lewis Dunk powered in a header from a corner.

Brighton had opportunities to take the lead but were denied by the brilliance of Tottenham’s goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, who made two outstanding saves. Danny Welbeck thought he had given Brighton the lead in the second half, only for VAR to rule it out for handball.

Tempers boiled over on the hour mark, with both managers being sent to the stands after a touchline fracas. But it was Tottenham who would ultimately have the last laugh, as Kane’s deflected effort found the top-left corner of the net in the 79th minute.

The victory keeps Tottenham’s slim hopes of qualifying for the Champions League alive, as they sit three points behind fourth-placed Manchester United. Meanwhile, Brighton’s frustrations continue, as they remain seven points behind Tottenham and unlikely to make a late surge for the top four.
