Dayo Adejuwon wins IGC Singles Matchplay

A member of the Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Mr Dayo Adejuwon, has emerged as the champion of this year’s IGC Singles Matchplay.

Adejuwon, who is popularly known as Dangote, won the championship after a rigorous six-month round of golf.
The winner, who was playing Handicap Seven, defeated the club’s Competition Secretary, Mr Bunmi Oladimeji, who is playing Handicap 14.

Also, the duo of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Ahmed Suleiman beat Mr Akin Funmilayo and Mr Demola Adegbeyi to claim the Doubles Matchplay.

Speaking after his presentation, Adejuwon said he’s very elated to have emerged as the Club’s champion, a feat he ascribed to hand work and love for the game.

“To the glory of God; I appreciate God for the privilege to participate and win and thank Him for the victory.

“I really worked hard for this victory because we started this game six months ago and for me to play the final, it’s a privilege and kudos to my wife, and my mother for the encouragement.”

Also, the Club’s captain, Mr Seyi Alaba, has praised the golf singles and doubles champions for their outstanding performances and dedication to the sport.

Alaba highlighted the champions’ skills and determination, noting how their efforts have inspired fellow club members.

The captain also emphasised the importance of sportsmanship and camaraderie within the club, encouraging all members to continue striving for excellence both on and off the course.

He said the club is looking forward to more competitions in the coming year and fostering a supportive environment for all golfers.

“This is the club championship, we have singles and doubles Matchplay and that is the biggest competition in any golf club and for this year, we made it more robust than what we used to have before as we have a good final among the finalists.

“All golfers look forward to this challenge as they want to participate and win because the person who has just won now, will have his picture displayed at the club pavilion for a whole year.

“The defending champion is Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola but today (Saturday) we have another winner in person of Mr Dayo Adejuwon,” he said.

Mr Mike Babalola claimed the veteran’s champion with 100 Gross and 76 Net, while Sade Ajala won the IGC Ladies Net with 88 Gross and 75 Net.
