Eagle (Green) House has emerged winner of the maiden Sport Day of Nest Pre School, Onireke, Ibadan after amassing 16 points.
Robin (Red) House came second with 14 points as Pelican (Yellow) House followed with 11 points, while Penguin (Blue) House finished fourth with nine points.
In his remarks, the chairman of the event, Chief Akin Delano (SAN) commended the school management for creating a platform for the kids to engage in sporting activities alongside academics.
“This is a successful programme because these children really enjoy themselves. I’m happy that they did well in their various sporting events,” he said.
Also speaking, the proprietor of the school, Muyiwa Ige, said the meet served as an avenue to teach children skills and leadership quality at tender age.
“The kids have a wonderful time, the motion skills were being challenged. Also, team work and leadership qualities were demonstrated, so what it tells us is that, from young age, we can begin to imbibe sports in our children.
“Catch-them-young programme is the only thing that can make kids develop in sports and I think they competed very friendly and enjoyed themselves too through this meet.
“Government should continue to encourage a catch-them-young programme policy, they should go to both public and private schools, get budding athletes, identify them and give them all the necessary support for them to blossom,” Ige said.
Meanwhile, the proprietress of the school, Mrs Oyinda Ige, in her remarks said the Sports Day was not for competition but a sports interaction.
“I don’t call this a competition but a sports interaction because we are building up a social skills to know how these kids relate and interact with other children.”
“This sporting event will be an annual programme at every Easter period. we are just six months old. We are aiming at producing sprinters and swimmers from tender age.
“We are not teaching these kids to be olympic swimmers in three months, but we are teaching them water familiarisation where they would no longer be afraid of water,” she stated.
