Falcao eager for atleti battle

Radamel Falcao is looking forward to facing former club Atletico Madrid with his current side Monaco in the Champions League.

The Colombian striker spent two years with Los Colchoneros between 2011 and 2013, managing 52 goals in 68 La Liga outings as well as picking up Copa del Rey, Europa League and UEFA Super Cup trophies before joining Monaco.

The French outfit have been drawn alongside Atleti in Champions League Group A, with Borussia Dortmund and Club Brugge completing the group, and Falcao is relishing the prospect of coming up against his former employers.

“Having the chance to play against Atletico is very special for me,” Falcao told reporters.

“Atletico are a club who are in my heart and I have many happy memories of my time at the club that I will forever cherish.

“Now I must fight for Monaco’s jersey to help defeat them but it will be tough because they are the favourites in the group and have reached three European finals in the last five years.

“That demonstrates how well they are performing as a club because they have a great Coach [Diego Simeone] and an amazing squad of players – that is why I think they are the favourites.”
