Luka Modric snubs Saudi Arabia to extend Real Madrid stay

Luka Modric has committed to Real Madrid for another season, prolonging his stay until the summer of 2024.

The Croatian maestro, who had been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia’s Pro League, will continue to ply his trade at the Bernabeu for the next year.

At 37 years old, Modric has left an indelible mark on Real Madrid, featuring in 488 matches and clinching three La Liga titles and five Champions League triumphs since his arrival from Tottenham in 2012. His remarkable achievements also include winning the prestigious Ballon d’Or in 2018, a year that saw Croatia make it to the World Cup final.

Sharing his joy about the new contract, Modric took to Twitter to express his contentment, writing “Home Sweet Home.”

This sentiment echoes the sentiments of Toni Kroos, Dani Ceballos, and Nacho Fernandez, who have also recently extended their contracts with the club. Real Madrid recognizes Modric’s continued importance as a pivotal player for the 14-time European champions.

As part of their summer business, Real Madrid have already made a significant signing by acquiring England international Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.

This addition intensifies the competition for midfield spots, ensuring a fierce battle for playing time in the team.
