Neil Custis says that Mourinho and Guardiola have completely contrasting styles.
Mourinho’s United beat Leicester 2-0 on Saturday to maintain their perfect start to the new season. Guardiola’s City on the other hand left it late once again as Raheem Sterling struck in the 97th minute to seal a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth.
Speaking on Sunday Supplement, custis made it clear that he believes that the differeing fortunes of the two sides is as much down to the styles of their managers as it is to do with luck.
Speaking of City, he said: “I don’t see any progress from last season. I think a lot of players, particularly at the back, don’t know what they’re doing.
“Whereas Mourinho simplifies football, I think Guardiola overcomplicates it. There were a number of times against Bournemouth where they were getting caught at the back, again with the short passing, again with failing to clear their lines.
“It just seems very complicated sometimes with what they’re trying to do.”
Is Custis right? Who will have the last laugh come the end of the season?
