Nigeria bag Minifootball World Cup ticket

NIGERIA on Saturday joined other four African teams that will represent the continent in next year’s World Minifootball Cup in Ukraine.

The Spartan Eagles of Nigeria in a playoff of the second edition of the African Minifootball Nations Cup defeated their counterparts from Zambia 3-2 at the Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort, Ibadan, to book the World Cup ticket alongside Egypt, Libya, Ghana and the Ivory Coast.
Egypt emerged champions of the tournament following a 1-0 victory over Libya, with Ehab Taha’s goal in the second half of the extra time.
In the playoff, the match hero turned out to be MFM FC of Lagos player, Kabiru Adeniji, who scored a hat-trick which helped Nigeria qualify for the Ukraine 2022.
“I’m happy with this victory but more importantly, about the World Cup ticket we are able to secure for Nigeria. I promise Nigerians that we are going to make the country proud in Ukraine, this is an opportunity for us to showcase that Nigeria is good at any sport,” Kabiru told Sportingtribune.
Also, head coach of Nigeria’s Spartan Eagles, Fabian Edaba, said the opportunity has come for his team to put critics wrong.
“I’m very excited about the result of today’s match, my boys have shown that they can play anywhere in the world, beating Zambia for the second time in this competition show that we are a good side. We faced some challenges that almost made it impossible for us to qualify but God was on our side. Thank God we are going to Ukraine for the World Cup.
“We are going back home to prepare well for the World Cup, there are so many weak areas we need to correct before the World Cup because we are going to play against the best in the world. So we need solid preparation to meet the challenges at the global level,” Fabian told Sportingtribune.
