NNL urges club owners, players to be more professional

Lawrence Katken, the Secretary of Nigeria National League (NNL), on Monday in Abuja urged club owners and players to be more professional in the 2016/2017 season.

Katken told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that exhibiting professionalism in matches would make the league more interesting and attractive.

“We had a very successful and improved season last year, in spite of the challenges we had, the biggest of them being that of finance.

“We expect clubs owners to be more professional, and to prepare their players to be ready for each game, instead of being ready for cheap points in the boardroom.

“I therefore appeal to clubs, even in the face of any difficulty, to endeavour to play the game.

“Players should put in their best because this season is going to be a more competitive season than before.

“We want to improve this season, because it is becoming more competitive. We are calling on the clubs to be more professional than they were last year, so that we can also record a successful league,” he said.

Katken said the new NNL governing board was working towards getting sponsorships, adding that finance was a huge problem in the way of making remarkable success.

“The new board is vigorously looking for sponsorship which is the main problem of the national league.

“They (the new board members) are trying as much as possible to make their own landmark to make sure the league will be interesting and be more competitive.

 

“If there is sponsorship, most of the problems in the league will be solved and we will have the moral responsibility to caution people who don’t measure up,’’ the NNL Secretary said.
