NPFL fixtures will go on as scheduled- LMC

Fixtures of the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will continue to hold as scheduled, the competition’s organisers, the League Management Company (LMC), said on Friday.

“The LMC, in doing this, is relying on the motion filed for stay of execution of Justice I.I. Kunda’s latest order made in disregard of the notice of appeal filed against his first order,’’ the company’s Head of Special Projects, Harry Iwuala, said in a statement.

The company said this was even one among several other grounds in taking its decision to continue with the league fixtures. LMC also stated that, in addition to the stay of execution filed, it has also filed a notice of appeal against the order of the Plateau State High Court in Jos.

The Jos court order had stopped matches of the NPFL until full compliance with the earlier interim order of the court. The interim order had directed the reinstatement of Giwa FC to the league and the rescheduling of the club’s matches. The LMC also said the decision to continue with the fixtures was part of some urgent steps to preserve NPFL’s integrity and protect it from irreparable damage.
