THE Super Eagles will not have cash problems for the remainder of the qualifying series for the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after the Nigerian government made money available to offset the players’ allowance for the remainder of both qualifiers.
Payment of match bonuses and allowances has been a recurring problem for the Nigeria Football Federation, which has failed to meet its obligation of paying the players after games on several occasions.
But that shouldn’t be an issue this time, after Nigeria’s acting president, Yemi Osinbajo approved cash for the prosecution of the qualifiers to the Glass House.
“The acting president has made cash available to them [NFF] up until the end of the World and Nations Cup qualifiers,” a source informed fcnaija.com.
“So there shouldn’t be a problem of not paying the players after games.”
The Super Eagles lost to the Bafana Bafana of South Africa 2-0 in their opening Africa Cup of Nations qualifier last weekend in Uyo, and the players were not entitled to a bonus as a result.
However, they are entitled to a $5,000 bonus for a win and half that for a draw in competitive matches.
They were only recently paid their win bonus for the 2-1 defeat of Zambia in a 2018 World Cup qualifier last September.
