Liverpool expects Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to be fit for the start of next season.
The player was undergoing a scan on Wednesday on the knee injury he suffered during Tuesday night’s Champions League game with Roma.
Although he is expected to suffer World Cup heartbreak and be missing from England manager Gareth Southgate’s squad, Anfield medical staff now believe the injury is not as serious as first feared.
Oxlade Chamberlain went down clutching his knee after a tackle on Alesksandar Kolarov during the 5-0 semi-final first leg.
After the clash, Klopp said: “Oxlade, it’s probably a really bad injury.
“If we can say that already before the scan, that’s never good news so that means for us it’s a massive blow, of course.
“We have still a few very important games to go and the squad doesn’t get bigger in the moment, so we obviously need to be creative in the next few games.
“The 24-year-old was assessed by the club’s medical team at Melwood on Wednesday morning and no specific timescale is being placed upon his return to action at this stage.
“However, Oxlade-Chamberlain will now begin a rehabilitation programme to enable him to reach full fitness again as soon as possible, returning to action next season.”
