PSG release video of Messi’s first day in Paris

Lionel Messi’s first day as a Paris Saint-Germain player has been documented in a nine-minute video by the club, showing the Argentine settling into his new life in the French capital.

The 34-year-old’s shock departure from Barcelona was confirmed on Thursday, and all doubts over his future were put to bed by Tuesday, when he arrived in Paris to sign a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 giants.

There has been huge fanfare surrounding Messi’s move to PSG, and the club has treated supporters to a series of videos, clips and images of their superstar at his new home.

And on Tuesday night, Les Parisiens released a nine-minute video of the six-time Ballon d’Or winner, showing him being put through his paces at their headquarters. The video begins with Messi’s arrival at the airport in France, before heading to a training centre, where he underwent a series of medical examinations.

He then traveled to PSG’s stadium, the Parc des Princes, and to be officially unveiled as a new Paris Saint-Germain player. Messi will wear the number 30 for the French giants, the number he first wore at Barcelona.

He was given a rousing welcome by supporters outside the stadium, cheering on the legendary football icon. Messi also had the opportunity to meet his new teammates and coach Mauricio Pochettino, who was all smiles at the prospect of working with one of the greatest footballers to have ever lived.

The forward finally put pen to paper on his contract, rounding off the perfect day for PSG supporters all over the world. Messi’s arrival has stunned the football community, having emotionally waved goodbye to Barcelona after spending more than two decades in Catalonia.

He was seemingly set to extend his expired contract at the end of last week, but events took a dramatic turn, when Barça announced that they were financially unable to register Messi for the upcoming season.

Subsequently, Messi was forced to leave Catalonia and decided to join PSG. He leaves behind a city where he scored 672 goals and provided 305 assists in just under 800 appearances, winning 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies in the process.
