Super Falcons of Nigeria defender, Ashleigh Plumptre, has described the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand as an incredible one which has allowed her to delve deeper into her origin.
Sporting Tribune reports that the Super Falcons were defeated by England in the Round of 16 of the senior women’s tournament on a penalty shoot-out after the match ended in a 0-0 draw following 120 minutes.
Reacting to the outcome of the Super Falcons’ campaign at the tournament in a Twitter post on Thursday, Plumptre, a former England youth international, said she is proud of representing her country of origin.
According to her, representing Nigeria at the senior level has given her the opportunity to learn more about her identity and exposed her to what it means to have the Naija spirit.
She tweeted, “Incredibly grateful for the opportunity to go deeper into my own identity, learn more about what it means to have “Naija spirit” and to showcase to the world what a unified, determined and empowered group of women are capable of achieving. Proud to be a Super Falcon 🇳🇬”
