Celtic captain, Callum McGregor, has praised Kelechi Iheanacho after the Nigeria international scored the winning goal in Wednesday night’s 3-2 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park.
The match was heading for a draw before Celtic were awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time after a VAR review confirmed a handball inside the box.
Iheanacho stepped up and calmly placed his effort into the bottom corner, sealing the win for the visitors and sparking celebrations in the away end.
It was the striker’s eighth goal in all competitions for Martin O’Neill’s side this season, with several of those strikes coming in key moments from the bench.

McGregor described Iheanacho as a decisive figure for the team, highlighting his impact in pressure situations.
“Obviously you do the maths around what we would have had to do at the weekend, but credit to him (Iheanacho),” McGregor told Celtic TV.
“He’s a big personality, a big player who steps up in the big moments and gets us over the line. Now it’s in our own hands.
“I thought it was a good game. Motherwell started well, and then I thought we got control when we scored, but it was a game which ebbed and flowed.”
The win keeps Celtic firmly in the title race as attention now shifts to Saturday’s final league fixture against Hearts at Celtic Park, where the championship will be decided in a winner-takes-all clash.
