IGC captain, Alaba, charges new members to be good ambassadors of club

Captain of Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Seyi Alaba, has charged newly-inducted members to be good ambassadors of the club.

Alaba gave the charge on Friday during the induction of over 80 new members into the club.

He encouraged the new members to be active golfers, adding that they must uphold the culture and ethics of the club.

He said: “I commend all the inductees for being selected to be a part of the IGC family. This is Ibadan Golf Club, the number one elitist club in Ibadan.

“As we welcome new members into our golfing family, let’s all strive to be good ambassadors, ensuring that our love for the game continues to thrive for years to come.

“IGC is grounded in exceptional golfing culture and character. Our founding fathers have invested a lot of their resources to keep IGC where it is today in the golfing community.”

Alaba described golf as a gentlemen’s game, just as he added that the new members must exhibit good character both on the course and at the pavilion.

“You will also expand your worldview through golf camaraderie, your service to the community, you will learn to lead, and you will develop yourself through the game of golf.

“I therefore welcome you to the IGC family which is not for the game of golf only but also for adding value to your personal life and to the Club in many ways. And together, we will carry out the Club’s projects to make our course, our Club, our community, our country, the world, a better place to live.”

In his remarks, the second Vice Captain of the club, who doubles as the Chairman of this year’s induction ceremony, Mr Benard Nduka, encouraged the new members to be active golfers adding that “The sole aim of joining the club is to play the game of golf, it is also pertinent to always put the club at heart to see how we can contribute our own quota to the growth and development of the club at every point in time.”

Also, the coordinator for 2024 IGC, Dr Olawale Dopemu said he’s happy to be part of IGC and his colleagues are also ready to contribute their quota to the development of the game of golf.

He said health-wise, golf is good and it will bring the best in you.

“He urged the people that have not embraced the game to do so if not for anything but for their health.”

Also, one of the new inductees, Oloye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke says he’s joining IGC for the development of Ibadan and Oyo State in general.

He said golf is a good game and an international game, not a local game noting that being a golfer qualifies you to play anywhere in the world. It enables you to associate with friends, business associates and also make new friends.”
