LIGUE 1: Tunisian star, 29 players, coaches sanctioned for breaking betting rules

The disciplinary committee of the French League has announced a series of sanctions against players and coaches from professional clubs for breaching the ban on sports betting.

The ban, which is outlined in the French Sports Code and the regulations of the French Football Federation (FFF) and the LFP, has led to penalties for numerous individuals, as reported by L’Équipe.

Among the thirty individuals affected by the sanctions, Tunisian star, Wahbi Khazri and Ludovic Blas faced the highest financial penalties. Montpellier striker Khazri was fined €3,000, while Nantes attacking midfielder Blas received a fine of €2,000. Nantes’ substitute goalkeeper, Rémy Descamps, was handed a one-match suspension (suspended) and two suspended matches, along with a €1,000 fine (suspended).

Jean-Charles Castelletto, also from Nantes, and Layvin Kurzawa, currently contracted to PSG, both received formal warnings. Christopher Rocchia, a former Marseille player now playing for Dijon in Ligue 2, was fined €1,500 and suspended for one match.

These violations were uncovered through a thorough examination of files, conducted in collaboration with the National Online Gaming Authority (ANJ) and the French National Lottery (FDJ).

The committee emphasized that “professional football players are strictly prohibited from betting on football competitions, whether national or international.” The sanctions will come into effect at midnight on Tuesday, June 27th.
