No fewer than 120 golfers will participate in the third edition of the Senior Special (SS28) Golf Championship slated for this weekend, February 15, at Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Onireke, Ibadan.
The event will bring together golf enthusiasts of all ages, fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship.
Participants will enjoy a day filled with friendly competition, showcasing their skills on the course as the tournament will feature various categories, allowing both seasoned players and newcomers to participate.
SS28 is a competition put together for 28 handicapped players and it’s a way to encourage them and give them an opportunity to play and mingle with the old golfers on the golf course.
According to the Captain of the club, Mr Seyi Alaba, the competition is part of the Club’s commitment to promote the game of golf among the members and in the state.
Alaba noted that the event served as a social gathering, with opportunities for networking and sharing experiences among players.
He emphasised the importance of inclusivity and the role of senior golfers at the club.
Some of the notable names that will play the match include; OJ, OB, JK, VSOP, Jaguu, Iron-man, Iron-bender, Iron-smelter, Agaga-Wood, Greggs, WASH, Deacon, Lord-Jimber, among others.
“We have some new members in this category and it’s essential for them to play so as to ascertain their skills and capabilities. It has also been observed that we have many members who have stayed so long playing 28 handicaps.
“With this tournament, some of them who play better would be upgraded to the next handicap,” Alaba said.
Meanwhile, the competition secretary, Mr Bunmi Oladimeji said the course is in good shape to help the golfers enjoy rounds of golf.
Chairman of the SA28 Committee, Mr Demola Adeboya, alongside Federal Representatives member, Honourable Stanley Olajide and other enthusiasts golfers will be on ground to play the SS28 golf championship. This is proudly supported by some kitty groups in the Club such as De Fun Golfers, Premium Golfers and The Black & White kitty group.
