Williams Egba wins IGC maiden Senior Citizens’ Golf tournament

Former Captain of Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Williams Egba, on Friday, emerged as the champions of the maiden edition of the Senior Citizens’ Golf tournament organised by the management of the club.

Egba won the nine holes kitty with 38 Net ahead of Muyiwa Ajibola, who played 41 Net on count back, while Gabriel Eneware claimed the second runner-up with 41 Net.

The tournament is aimed to celebrate elderly members of the club between from 70 years and above.

The club also decorated all the participants with medals of participation.

Speaking, the winner of the kitty, Egba lauded the initiative of club and urged the executive to continue.

He said the tournament was an unusual one and thanked God he was able to participate.

“I was not feeling too well but through some encouragements, I was able to participate and emerged the winner. I thank the organisers for making this kitty happen,” he said.

In his remarks, the Captain of the Club, Mr Seyi Alaba, said this is first of its kind in the golfing community and young members are delighted to celebrate their loved ones while alive.

He said he was impressive with the turnout saying it shows that their elders are in support of them as exco of the club.

Alaba said the tournament would go a long way to appreciate elders’ individual inputs and collective contributions to the development of IGC and to the game of golf at large.

He said “If they don’t set the pace for we the younger ones, we may not have a good Club today. That is why we don’t have to wait till when they pass before we celebrate them.”

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mr Olumuyiwa Olusanya, who is 90 years old plus, said he was very proud of the exco for its gesture towards them, adding that the tournament would last long in their memory.

“This is a new innovation and being the oldest member of the club, I appreciate, on behalf of the elders of the club.

“We thank the Captain and his team for giving us this reception. They did not wait until we pass before celebrating us and I hope this will continue every year,” he said.
