Erling Haaland scored twice in the second half as Norway stunned five-time champions Brazil to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in the country’s history.
Haaland struck in the 79th and 90th minutes to seal a famous victory after Brazil had missed an earlier penalty through Bruno Guimaraes.
The Manchester City striker, who had been largely contained for most of the match, broke the deadlock by getting ahead of defender Gabriel to meet an Andreas Schjelderup cross before adding a powerful low strike from outside the penalty area late in the game.

Brazil pulled one goal back deep into stoppage time after referee Ismail Elfath awarded a second penalty, ruling that Leo Ostigard had elbowed Casemiro. Neymar converted the spot-kick, but it was not enough to prevent Brazil’s elimination.
The defeat means Brazil have failed to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time since the 1990 tournament.
Norway will face either England or co-hosts Mexico in the quarter-finals. England and Mexico meet in their last-16 tie in Mexico City on Monday.
